SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GIRLS IN TIMOR-LESTE
“When you educate a girl, you educate an entire village”
The Alola Foundation (www.alolafoundation.org) is a women’s organisation in Timor-Leste which seeks to empower women and girls through education, maternal and child health programs, economic development and advocacy initiatives.
Since its inception, Alola’s Scholarships program has assisted thousands of young women to complete their secondary education and to continue on to university, a dream denied to many young girls due to financial hardship and social norms which favour educational opportunities for boys.
$AUD 100 can support a girl to complete a year of secondary schooling, including the provision of books and a uniform.
$AUD 150 will help a young woman to enrol in a course of study at Timor-Leste National University or one of the country’s vocational colleges such as Natarbora Agricultural College.
100% of all $2 donations through Wild Timor Coffee's website go towards Alola's Scholarship Program.
“A strong woman is a literate and educated woman. Spending money on getting a girl to school and keeping her there through at least the years of basic, compulsory schooling is the best investment any government can make in the well-being of the nation.”
